Segun Oni, the Social Democratic Party’s, SDP governorship candidate in Ekiti State, and his Action Democratic Party counterpart, Mrs Kemi Elebute-Halle, have both rejected the results of Saturday’s election, claiming that the verdict will be challenged in the tribunal.
Oni revealed this on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, while speaking with reporters about the election results, through Owoseni Ajayi, his state collation agent and former Attorney-General of the state.
Similarly, Moses Jolayemi, the media aide to Segun Oni said “the party has strongly rejected the results of the election. In an interview on Channels TV Politics Today, Jolayemi said, “the electoral process was marred by irregularities and vote-buying across the various polling units in the state.”
In the same vein, Elebute-Halle said that the victory of Biodun Oyebanji in the just-concluded election was “tainted with vote buying and corruption”.
The SDP candidate said that the results, as declared by INEC, did not reflect the true decision of the people, lamenting that the process was allegedly marred by financial inducement.
“We are rejecting the results since the election was marked by violence and voter intimidation,” Ajayi stated of his refusal to endorse the election results.
“As a result, we will undoubtedly contest these results in court for posterity and future generations to learn that while conducting elections, one must adhere to the norms and processes.”
Elebute-Halle decried the stealing of ballot boxes, vote-buying, and intimidation of her party members in a statement issued on her behalf by Femi Eponlolaye, the party’s State Chairman in Ado-Ekiti.
Political thugs and members of a party, she claims, attacked supporters of my party in Ado-Ekiti, Oye-Ekiti, Ikole-Ekiti, and Ilasa-Ekiti, among other places.
“I would have recognized Mr Biodun Oyebanji’s victory in the just ended governorship election if the contest had not been marred by electoral malpractices,” she added.
“Despite multiple anti-vote-buying campaigns and media coverage, the APC, PDP, and SDP promoted and encouraged corruption, both at the grassroots and at the state level.”
“Though the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Oyebanji the election winner, I, Kemi Elebute-Halle, hereby dispute the election results.”
“It was not credible nor free nor fair.” His APC thugs invaded my strongholds around the state, assaulted our members, and seized and damaged our voting boxes.
“At the tribunal, all of those votes, including those acquired by the PDP, will be canceled.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage my followers not to be dismayed by the election results.”
“We will continue to promote the ADP, our great party.”
Elebute-Halle, on the other hand, asked international observers, security agencies, and INEC to continue to educate Ekiti voters about vote buying, which has infiltrated the electoral process.
