Wike, Okowa, Udom, Anyim Jostle for PDP Vice Presidential Slot

Following the emergence of former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, various governors elected on the party’s platform are being projected as his running mate.

According to NG Times Online News, two PDP governors who ran for the PDP ticket with Atiku are among those being considered for the vice presidential slot.

Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and Udom Emmanuel are their names (Akwa Ibom). Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State is another PDP governor in the running.

On Saturday, Atiku, who received the support of another presidential challenger and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, polled 371 votes to defeat Wike, who received 237 votes in a tense race for the PDP presidential banner.

Dr. Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President and two-time governor of Kwara State, received 70 votes, putting Udom Emmanuel in fourth place.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State received 20 votes, while Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, received 14 votes.

One of Wike, Okowa, Udom Emmanuel, or Anyim, according to PDP insiders, could be considered as Atiku’s running mate.

If Mr Peter Obi did not abandon the PDP for the Labour Party, he would be in line to be chosen as Atiku’s running mate again, as he was in 2019.” Wike, Okowa, and Udom are likely to be considered in his absence. In consultation with key party stakeholders, the PDP hierarchy will convene to make a decision.

The party will also keep an eye on who the All Progressives Congress (APC) chooses as its candidate.

Now that the presidential primaries are completed, you can see how calm and transparent they were.” “Our leaders want to mobilize all hands to save Nigerians from the APC’s terrible leadership over the previous seven years,” the party’s head declared. “PDP is a vast family with a big umbrella,” the source stated when asked what would happen to other presidential candidates.

Everyone will be accommodated. Tambuwal might be handed a senatorial ticket if he is willing, and if he wins, he could become the next Senate President if Atiku is elected. Dr. Saraki has the potential to become the President’s Chief of Staff or SGF. All of this will be considered in order to achieve harmony.”
