Anambra House of Assembly Reacts to Shocking Beheading of Member

On Saturday night, disaster struck again in Anambra State, when unidentified gunmen allegedly decapitated Hon Okechukwu Okoye, a House of Assembly member representing Aguta II Constituency. On Sunday, May 15, 2022, Okoye, a member from Governor Charles Soludo’s immediate state seat, was kidnapped together with his aide, Cyril Chiegbok.

Okoye’s decapitated head was dumped at Chisco Park in Amichi Community of Anambra state, according to a Facebook post by Itumo Palm-Tree Ndubisi, former Technical Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor.

Since Saturday night, the footage of the decapitated head of the Anambra House of Assembly member placed in a carton by a bush side has been spreading on social media.

Uche Okafor, the Speaker of the House, termed the conduct as heartbreaking and terrible in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Emma Madu, on Sunday in Akwa.

According to him, Okoye was one of the state’s most outspoken and articulate lawmakers, and the state’s legislative institution has lost a valuable member in the form of the deceased lawmaker.

Okafor said the late legislator had a great sense of humour and was dedicated to his work, adding that his death would be felt in the House for a long time.

He urged Gov. Chukwuma Soludo not to give up on his efforts to ensure the safety of residents’ lives and property.

Okafor also urged all well-meaning citizens in Anambra to join hands with the governor in the fight against societal ills and all forms of criminality.

On behalf of other state lawmakers, the Speaker expressed condolences to the late Okoye’s immediate family, kinsmen, Governor Soludo, the whole Isuofia community, and Anambra state at large on his passing.
