Putin Bars Boris Johnson, Other Top UK Officials from Russia

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Foreign Minister Liz Truss, and other cabinet officials have been barred from entering the country as a result of the UK’s sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine.

The steps were taken in reaction to “strangling” moves by the United States and the European Union, according to a statement released by Russia’s Foreign Ministry on Saturday.

“In connection with the unprecedented hostile actions of the British government, expressed, in particular, in the imposition of sanctions against top officials of the Russian Federation, a decision was made to include key members of the British government and a number of political figures in the Russian “stop list”, the statement said.

The foreign ministry lists 13 British officials, including former Prime Minister Theresa May, and warns that the list will grow “shortly.”

Boris Johnson is joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Dominic Rennie Raab, Foreign Affairs Minister Elizabeth Truss, Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace, Transport Minister Grant Schapps, Interior Minister Priti Patel, Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, and Media Minister Nadine Vanessa Dorries. James Heappey, Deputy Secretary of Defense, Nicola Ferguson Stuegeon, Minister of Scotland, and Suella Braverman, Attorney General for England and Wales, are all on the list.

In reaction to the sanctions placed against it, Russia put travel restrictions on US President Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and other members of the Biden Administration in March.
