Cristiano Renaldo’s return to Old Trafford has displeased Donny Van de Beek, who believes it will push him further down the pecking order for first-team selection.
Since arriving from Ajax for £35 million, Van de Beek has started only four Premier League games and made 32 appearances altogether, failing to make an impression.
Last month, Donny attempted to join Rafa Benitez at Everton, but Ole Gunner Solskjaer stopped the move, claiming that he wanted to include the Dutchman in his plans.
Donny has yet to start a game this season and has been an unused substitute in United’s three Premier League games.
“Cristiano’s arrival was bad news for us,” his agent, Guido Albers, stated. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival, there will be another player in midfield, with Paul Pogba moving out from the left.
We spoke with Solskjaer and the board of directors. We decided to look for another club, and our quest led us to Everton. We began discussions with Marcel Brans and Farhad Moshiri at Everton, but Solskjaer informed us that a transfer was not possible and that Donny would have to report to training as usual.
We stated that he is not a Carabao Cup or FA Cup player, and that he will only play in European games. He relocated to England in order to compete in the Premier League.
Donny worked extremely hard during the summer and took only seven days holiday and he is totally ready to play.”
