Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be without four crucial players for Wednesday’s Champions League match against Juventus.
Tuchel stated that midfielder N’Golo Kante had contracted COVID-19 during his press conference on Tuesday so an appearance with Juventus will not be possible
Following a groin injury, Kante has only played two 45-minute games this season, against Tottenham and Aston Villa.
The France international was also substituted during Saturday’s 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge to Manchester City.
The UEFA Champions League is an annual club football competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations and contested by top-tier European clubs. The competition is decided by a round-robin group stage, which qualifies teams for a double-leg knockout format, and a single-leg final.
The 30-year-old will now miss Saturday’s Premier League match against Southampton as well as tomorrow’s heavyweight battle against the Italian giants.
Tuchel will also be missing Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount, as well as Reece James, who has an ankle problem and is expected to miss the trip to St Mary’s.
In light of Kante’s condition, Tuchel stated that he does not know what percentage of his squad is fully vaccinated at the moment.
