Oluwaseyi Oyetunde, a driver for a company in Ogun State, was detained along with two others for allegedly stealing goods worth N4.7 million meant for a customer in Lagos State.
They were arrested, according to police in Ogun, in connection with the diversion of commodities belonging to the Hayat Kimya Company.
The driver and two other suspects, Segun Oluwaseun and Chijoke Ogbu, were detained after the matter was reported to Agbara police station last week by one Oluwatosin Ayodeji, according to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi.
According to Ayodeji, Oyetunde loaded the products that were supposed to be delivered to a customer in Lagos, but “since the 24th of August, 2021, the said driver has absconded with the goods and the vehicle.”
Following the report, the DPO of Agbara division, SP Saleh Dahiru, was alleged to have dispatched his top investigators to look into the driver’s and products’ unexpected disappearance.
“The team launched an intelligence-based investigation and tracked the driver and the vehicle to Lagos State, where he was quickly caught with the empty truck,” Oyeyemi added.
“The driver acknowledged that he diverted the products to the receivers, who acquired the commodities from him at a give-away price,” Oyeyemi disclosed during interrogation.
This, according to NG Times, resulted in the buyers being apprehended by police in their stores, “where parts of the stolen products were recovered and the two receivers arrested.”
Edward Ajogun, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, has ordered a complete inquiry into the incident in order to recover the remaining products.
Ajogun also ordered that the suspects be charged and prosecuted in court.
