Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, believes Karim Benzema will win the Ballon d’Or. Benzema, he claims, is like excellent wine that improves with age.
In recent years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have won the accolade, but the 33-year-form old’s has prompted requests from the local media for him to receive it.
With Madrid leading LaLiga, Benzema has already scored eight goals and given seven assists this season.
He needs to be on the list of prospective winners for what he’s doing and what he’s accomplished.
“Having said that, Karim still has a chance to win it. I don’t think this is Benzema’s final season – he’s like a beautiful wine, and the older he gets, the better he gets,” Ancelotti added.
Karim Benzema has eight goals and seven assists this season after scoring two goals and providing two assists in Real Madrid’s 6-1 triumph over Real Mallorca on Wednesday night.
This means that the France international has been personally involved in 15 of Real Madrid’s 22 goals this season, accounting for 68 percent of the team’s goals.
Benzema’s statistics can only be compared to those of Robert Lewandowski (15 goals) and Erling Haaland (11 goals and four assists in eight games).
In 2021, the Real Madrid No.9 has played a key role in 34 Real Madrid goals, scoring 23 and assisting on 11 occasions.
Lewandowski has 34 goal involvements as well (31 goals and three assists), while Lionel Messi (23 goals and eight assists) and Haaland (24 goals and seven assists) are the next two men with 31 goal involvements each.
With 16 goals and six assists (25 appearances), Kylian Mbappe is tied for fourth place with Romelu Lukaku, who has 16 goals and nine assists.
