The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained Arnold Maniru, a 22-year-old National Youths Service Corps member, for reportedly smuggling four kilograms of drugged candies from the United Kingdom.
In a statement made available to NG Times, Mr Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director, Media and Advocacy, said that the Corps member serving with a government agency in Abuja was apprehended on Saturday, August 28th, 2021.
The victim was also arrested after a cargo was intercepted at a transport company’s warehouse, according to the statement.
The controlled delivery of the gift with the candies laced with Arizona, a potent version of cannabis, and some liquid was then carried out, according to the statement.
In a related development, agents with courier companies in Lagos confiscated 1.2kg of cannabis hidden within locally made cookies on their way to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to the statement.
920 grams of cocaine disguised inside synthetic hair bound for Saudi Arabia were also intercepted in Lagos, according to the Director of Media and Advocacy.
“Another 1.08kg cannabis, hidden in spray cans and headed for Pakistan; and 625 grams of methamphetamine, hidden in garments and headed for Australia, were also seized,” he added.
