The smash song “Essence” from Wizkid’s fourth album, “Made In Lagos,” has become the most searched music on Shazam, a US entertainment app.
Shazam is a popular music software that can assist users identify a song’s name and title.
The platform also displays information such as the name of the artist and the title of the song now playing.
The music app said the mid-tempo single has become the most ‘Shazamed’ song in the US in a statement on its Twitter page on Monday.
Big congrats to Wizkid! Essence is now the most shazamed song in the United States,” it wrote.
‘Essence’ is the eleventh track of Wizkid’s fourth studio album, ‘Made In Lagos’ (MIL), which was released in October 2020.
The song has received tremendous praise from music fans and is the first Nigerian song to chart on the Billboard charts.
After four weeks, ‘Essence’ would take another step forward, climbing 23 ranks on the Hot 100 to 59th place.
The smash song ascended to number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after a surprise remix with Justin Bieber, a Canadian pop artist.
Former US President Barack Obama had chosen the successful song as one of his favorite songs for 2020.
