According to NG Times Online News, Ese Brume qualified for the final stage on Sunday morning after leaping to a distance of 6.76m, 1cm higher than the necessary standard.
With a 6.97m leap, Brume won the bronze medal.
Malaika Mihambo of Germany won gold with a 7.00m leap, while Brittney Reese of the United States of America took silver with a 6.97m leap on countback.
Since the Athletics Integrity Unit disqualified Ruth Usoro, Brume is Nigeria’s lone representative in the jumps in Tokyo.
Apart from Ajunwa’s gold in Atlanta in 1996, Blessing Okagbare is another Nigerian to have earned an Olympic medal in the Long Jump, having won silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
