Family of a Super TV CEO Has Filed a Petition IGP Baba; Looks for a new Investigation

As the family of the late Super TV CEO continues to seek a thorough investigation into the issue, the murder case involving Usifo Ataga and Chidinma Ojukwu is progressively taking a new turn.

The Ataga family has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, to re-investigate the circumstances of the murder through their legal counsel, Mike Ozekhome.

This happened only days after the family accused Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, of “attempting to protect the Ataga killers.”

The family, however, complained to the IGP about the one million naira bail given by the magistrate court to Chidinma’s father and another suspect in the case, Babalola Disu.

Disu is “strongly suspected” of carrying out the murder, according to the family.

The family further claimed that the police arraigned the principal suspect, Chidinma Ojukwu, and other suspected accomplices at a chief magistrate’s court, which had no authority over murder cases, without seeking legal guidance from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

“The family based their suspicion on information it obtained to the effect that Disu’s short rental apartment was precisely opposite the apartment where Ataga was killed,” according to the appeal through Ozekhome.

“The family related how the stated Disu had requested that the carpenter from the Air BnB short service apartment fix his door, only to be told that it was actually Super TV CEO Ataga’s door that was broken.

Major Christopher Datong is Not Dead – Fisayo Soyombo.

“They also suspects the said Disu of having a hand in Ataga’s murder due to the manner in which he vanished from the service apartment, and wonders why he was charged with mere obstruction and failure to report a crime, and thus granted bail in the ridiculous sum of N1 million only,” the family said.

“What crime did Disu obstruct police investigation for, and why did he do it? How did he accomplish this? Disu was charged with what offence he failed to report to the police? Was it the homicide investigation? If that’s the case, how did he become involved, and how did he learn about it? The Ataga family is in desperate need of answers, according to the petition.

According to Ozekhome, the family wanted a re-investigation of the entire case.

The family also wants all results turned over to the Lagos State DPP, who would formally re-arrest Chidinma and other suspects.

“These include Babalola Disu; Ojukwu – Chidinma’s purported father or sugar daddy; Jessica Egbochi; Abayomi Olutayo; and Ifeoluwa Olowu; and any other person(s) whom the police inquiry may yet turn up as being involved to Ataga’s cold-blooded murder,” the plea said.
