Expose the Sponsors of Terrorism or we Protest – Northern Youths to FG

The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCON) has set the Federal Government a 14-day deadline to expose the identity of individuals who financially support terrorists or risk a mass protest demonstration.

The Northern group said in a press statement signed by its National President, Comrade Isah Abubakar, that it had watched the popular Channels Television show, ‘Sunrise Daily,’ on Wednesday, where its guest, Kunle Olawunmi, a retired Navy Commodore and a Professor of Intelligence and Global Security Studies, said he was a member of a committee that interrogated a senior member.

Abubakar expressed his displeasure with the government of Muhammadu Buhari, saying that Olawunmi further added that in April of this year, the government announced it detained 400 bureaus de change (BDCs) operators who were funding Boko Haram.

According to the group’s statement, a former military officer questioned why these terrorists will not be convicted because they are well-known.

Quoting Olawuumi who said, “We know them. Why can’t this government, if not that they are partisan, why can’t they bring those people out for trial?” I can’t come on air and start mentioning names of people that are presently in government that the boys we arrested mentioned. Some of them are governors now. Some of them are in the Senate. Some of them are in Aso Rock”, NYCON stressed that the government must rise up to its responsibility of protecting the lives of Nigerian citizens.

The Northern group claimed that if the serious allegation is not dealt with correctly by purposeful government measures, it will further polarize the country, which is already riven by secessionist agitations.

The group demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari fire Mr Abubakar Malami, who, according to the group, was the one who first brought the issue of the sponsors of insecurity to the public’s attention with the promise of revealing their identities but failed to do so, leading to the embarrassing and serious charge of sectionalism leveled against the government.

While serving the government with a 14-day pre-protest notice, Northern youths stated that if the identities of the sponsors of their brothers and sisters’ killers are not revealed, they will have no choice but to occupy the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory until their demands are met.
