Hakim Ziyech ‘s Hatrick Seals Victory for Chelsea
Chelsea defeated Peterborough United 6-1 in a pre-season friendly played behind closed doors.
Last week, the Blues’ returning loanees and first-team players who did not play for their national teams in the Copa America and Euro 2020 tournaments returned to training.
Peterborough United were defeated after goals from Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic in the first half were supplemented by a Hakim Ziyech hatrick in the second half and an Armando Broja finish.
Thomas Tuchel’s team started with the same 3-4-2-1 configuration that was so successful last season.
According to Football.London, Jamie Cumming started the game and kept a clean sheet before being substituted by Lucas Bergstrom for the final 30 minutes.
Back three of Jake Clarke-Salter, Trevoh Chalobah, and Malang Sarr, with Davide Zappacosta and Marcos Alonso operating as wing backs.
Drinkwater and Barkley played double 6’s in the first half, with Barkley assisting Abraham’s goal.
From the start, a front three of Pulisic, Abraham, and Callum Hudson-Odoi was trusted.
Chelsea led 2-1 at halftime, thanks to goals from Abraham and Pulisic, who helped the Blues recover from a goal down thanks to a Peterborough penalty.
Tuchel made many substitutions in the second half, including Ziyech, Conor Gallagher, Baba Rahman, and Armando Broja.
In 45 minutes of action, the Moroccan scored a hatrick, while youthful attacker Broja also scored and assisted.
Tuchel will have gained more insight into what his returning players have to offer ahead of the new season after an outstanding win.
