The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has issued a warning to the Nigerian government about Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB.
Yerima Shettima, the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF’s National President, warned the Nigerian government against allowing a circumstance to arise that would allow Kanu to flee once more.
NG Times Online News learnt that Shettima warned that if the IPOB leader escaped again, Nigerians would be furious with the federal government.
When asked if Kanu could escape again, Shettima replied, “Escaping? I doubt it; the Nigerian government cannot take such a risk because Nigerians will be outraged if they do. I’m confident they wouldn’t do something like that.”
Kanu fled the nation after jumping bail granted by Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court in 2017.
The IPOB leader was, however, rearrested a few weeks ago and repatriated back to Nigeria to continue his trial.
He was produced before Justice Nyako on Tuesday last week, who remanded him in the custody of the Department of State Services, or DSS.
