Beninese Court Orders Sunday Igboho to Remain in Custody as Wife Regains Freedom

The wife of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho) was ordered to be released this evening by the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic, where they were charged on Thursday.

According to court officials, Igboho should be sent to detention, according to SaharaReporters.

“They just finished from court. The wife is to be released this night and Sunday is to remain in custody. The matter was adjourned till Friday,” an official said.

Recall Sunday Igboho was awaiting his fate at the Cour De’appal De Cotonou, Benin Republic, after being arraigned by the country’s authorities for immigration-related offenses.

On Thursday afternoon, Igboho was taken to court.

According to NG Times Online News, the activist does not want to be extradited to Nigeria.

Recall that Igboho was apprehended by Benin Republic police at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou on Monday night while attempting to fly from the country to Germany.

The activist’s home in Ibadan, Oyo state, was raided by the Department of State Services (DSS) on July 1.

Two days prior to the raid, Igboho had organized a “Yoruba Nation Rally” in Lagos.

The DSS invaded the house, murdering two persons and detaining 12 others, but Igboho managed to flee.

The agency said Igboho was stockpiling weapons and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Since the raid, the agitator has been on the run.
