Boko Haram and militants of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) were targeted by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) jets along the Lake Chad axis.
The synchronized airstrikes destroyed the sects’ commanders’ strongholds and their guards.
Areas targeted by intelligence include camps in Sabon Tumbu, Jibularam, and Kwalaram.
The spiritual base and training camps on the outskirts of Lake Chad, according to an officer, were destroyed.
“Their leaders, including Ali Chakkar and other top ISWAP commanders, were holding a meeting when the attacks were launched.
“The precision-guided airstrikes coordinated by the Air Task Force Command resulted in the killing of very large numbers of ISWAP and Boko Haram terrorists.”
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet confirmed the operation.
“We don’t distinguish between Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists because we successfully launched devastating intelligence-led aerial assaults targeting terrorists in those areas,” he said.
