Santi Cazorla, a former Spainish international, believes Mikel Arteta is the right manager to get Arsenal back to their peak, regardless of what happens in the Europa League semi-final second leg tie against Villarreal on Thursday at Emirates.
Last Thursday in Spain, Arteta’s team lost 2-1 to Villarreal in the first leg.
Arsenal is currently in ninth position in the Premier League. With 49 points from 34 games, Arsenal is currently in ninth position in the Premier League table.
Despite the Gunners’ struggles this season, Santi Cazorla expressed his full support for old teammate Arteta in an interview with UEFA.
“I believe he [Mikel Arteta] is the right man to lead the club forward,” he said.
“It’s difficult to follow a time like Arsene Wenger’s because the team has to adjust to a different type of football, a different style, and a different view of the game.
“He has a good vision for his team, they are in the semi-finals, and they did well in the FA Cup last season.”
“We’ve been inconsistent, but you have to give him time, and I believe they believe Mikel can get a lot out of the team and accomplish great things.
“I’m great friends with him, and something positive that happens to him and the club makes me proud because I’m a Gunner.”
