The People Democratic Party, PDP has requested that the Department of State Services, DSS quiz Godswill Akpabio, the Nigeria’s Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, about his remarks on the country’s security problems.
Recall Akpabio said the country’s insecurity is “politically driven” in an interview on Thursday in Abuja.
“I believe that the majority of the problems are political in nature, so we must use our binoculars to search for and recognise the sponsors of the insecurity we are experiencing in the country,” the minister had said.
The PDP, on the other hand, characterized Akpabio’s remark — who defected from the party in 2018 to join the All Progressives Congress, APC— as “self-professed proof.”
Kola Ologbondiyan, the party’s spokesman, said in a statement on Friday that the minister has access to “some terrorism-related material” that Nigerians are unaware of and that must be disclosed to the DSS.
“The PDP demands that the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies immediately invite Senator Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, to appoint political candidates.
“The PDP stressed that there is self-professed evidence that Senator Akpabio has access to terrorism-related information that he must be forced to share with the DSS and other security agencies,” the party said.
“Our party’s stance is based on Senator Akpabio’s remarks on Thursday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja that acts of terrorism in our country are ‘politically motivated’ and the work of infiltrators from neighboring countries.”
